finally, war was upon them. it thundered in the skies, crashed in the waves.[break][break]

for years, she’d longed to see the innermost workings of mossdeep’s space center and be a part of the takeover. however, as violence ensued on the coast, she’d decided at last minute that it made sense to stay. to be near enough to guard their technology: the rocket, the dream machine, all she had worked for.[break][break]

though Naomi Sato and Zev Harcourt did not have her full trust, her faith in their abilities gave her great hope for their success.[break][break]

she sat alone in an abandoned building not far from headquarters, her location known to fellow rockets. there was a folding table. from it ran cables, portable devices, several monitors powered by a generator. there, she waited for the alert: the successful launch of a hacked satellite.[break][break]

meanwhile, houndoom patrolled at the entrance and exit.[break][break][break]

The tension was thick but nothing could stop these two from their usual nonsense; not even the guard dogs and the human shaped threat pulsing in Lucario's VISION SIGHT just beyond the wall.

With a lazy flick of his hand a nearby Greninja SHADOW SNEAKS into the shadow of the Houndoom, small orbs exploding in their presence to release blankets of SMOKESCREEN. It quickly slips back into the shroud of smoke, but lingering nearby.

the shadow houndoom’s nostrils flared, detecting intruders and barking. however, before it could track them down, smokescreen stung its senses, quickly obscuring that side of the building.[break][break]

lulu rose suddenly from where she’d been sitting, seeing the smoke creep closer with alarm. while it did not surprise her that she’d come under attack, it did surprise her that there was no warning. the war was still at sea, yet to leak into the city.[break][break]

her other houndoom barked and nearly headed into the smoke too, but she stopped it with a sharp command.[break][break]

”stay. keep your guard up.” then, not daring to abandon the equipment, she called out to the dog still within the smoke, ”find them, shade!”[break][break]

snarling intensified, the shadow's temper flaring more with each passing second its foe remained in hiding. meanwhile, lulu leaned into a mic to alert over comms, ”this is head scientist lulu flint. i have unfriendly company.”[break][break][break]

It was a risk to allow Lulu to gather her thoughts—it was one many wouldn't have allowed, as it went against all conventions of a tactical response. However, King didn't wish to ambush Lulu; not entirely, that was.

He wanted her to know it was him.
[break][break]
Greninja, just as blinded as the canines but more prepared, released a volley of SPIKES throughout the smoke covered area. Satisfied, phase 2 of the plan begins, and like a hurtling meteor, it emerges from the smoke over Lulu Flint and shoots out one final attack: a LICK designed to cover her face in disgusting saliva.

It wouldn't be fitting for a fight between these two if he didn't knock her down a peg or two first.

alarming traps were scattered across the floor, visible just under the clearest edge of the smoky veil. surely cause for the sharp yelp that came from within.[break][break]

“watch your feet!” she activated her sygna suit, just in time before a tongue lapped up across her face, leaving her stunned and disgusted, eyes wide. ”eugh!”[break][break]

as she wiped toxic and tingling saliva from her face, magenta energy glowed from the other gloved hand. “here, boys! frog dinner! you nasty shit.”[break][break]

black rings of dark pulse launched violently out from her palm in the greninja’s direction, followed closely by the deep purple nebula of her houndoom's shadow break.[break][break]

”whoever you are, you’re dead! i don’t have to see you to know that.”[break][break][break]

The SHADOW BREAK does more to the Greninja than the DARK PULSE had moments earlier. The frog goes head-over-ass as it careens into a nearby alleyway, groaning in pain, blotches of green blood trailing its form. Safely in the shadows and noticeably weak, Greninja dips his arm into the inky black beneath him and slides back into the domains of shadows.

A barking, mocking laugh cuts through the momentary lapse of silence.
[break][break]
King rises from that same shadow, a move he'd seen Lulu do a time or two, and steps out further into the light. His smile carries that same ridicule, cerulean orbs bright with mischief.

"Should've seen the look on yer face. Oh, wait, I'll show ye!" Then, as if planned (it was), he takes out his cell-phone and flips it to her. A photo, with some measure of blur on it, shows the woman mere moments after the tongue had streaked across her face. It was glorious; an heirloom he'd pass down to his daughter, no doubt.

His smile settles, eyes hardening, posture becoming less animalistic and more controlled.

seeing the frog topple away was satisfying, but its toxic breath still lingered, causing her to make a face and wipe it on the shoulder of her sygna suit again.[break][break]

the laugh that came then was grating. she knew it, even before he dared to show his insufferable face.[break][break]

he exited the veil of darkness and she stared, right past the phone he held up, so dumbfounded by the sight of him that for a moment, she wasn’t even angry anymore. it was so ridiculous and unexpected that it was comical.[break][break]

”hah! i didn't expect you, i’ll give you that! i knew you were an idiot, but this is really impressively asinine.”[break][break]

the comedy did not last long, burned away by the heat of her old contempt. finally, she was free to sink her teeth.[break][break]

”let’s go, scum. djall, shade! eat!”[break][break]

the hounds closed in, devilish silhouettes through lingering smoke that would descend quickly, their psychic fangs seeking him from left and right.[break][break][break]

Crude humor aside his eyes narrow as the hounds approach. The one touched by Shadow was the bigger threat, that much was clear, but he wasn't concerned about that one. After all, he wasn't alone.

A figure descends with trailing silver energy. A METEOR MASH coated fist, lended momentum from the fall, descends on the Shadow hound. The other?

A figure forms instantly in a flash of light, hand reaching out to take the brunt of the PSYCHIC FANG. Immunity to the mental pain left only the physical, but that mattered little to the URSHIFU, gathering his INNER FOCUS.

but the bark was worse than the first bite. focused on b-lining for their prey, her dogs were easy targets for stealthier foes. a lucario's familiar meteor mash crashed down into the shadow houndoom, stopping its pursuit.[break][break]

once a specialty, fighting-types had become a bane. however, the urshifu’s wicked blow was hardly devastating to the other houndoom. it took the hit, and its attention promptly turned on the bear.[break][break]

”counter it.”[break][break]

the houndoom lunged, aiming to return power of the blow twofold.[break][break]

meanwhile, the shadow handled itself, a vicious nature without command. it rolled off the ground with a growl and squared off, firing a shadow ball at the lucario.[break][break]

”this is your resignation, i’m guessing.” lulu tilted her head at king, her gaze disdainful as ever. "don’t belong anywhere, do you?”[break][break][break]

Urshifu creates an X across its chest, taking the COUNTER directly onto its prepared defense, but still it's send sliding back half-a-dozen feet. With a roar of pain and defiance, it advances on the canine, DYNAMIC energy around its PUNCH.

With one paw Lucario slaps the SHADOW BALL, bearing the ghostly pain, while the other paw sends an AURA SPHERE directly back at his opponent.
